Lot 2030 in our Saturday antique & collectables auction this 10th May features this Royal Worcester ovoid reticulated porcelain vase by the designer George Owen.
Owen was famous for his mastery of the technique of reticulated porcelain, in which patterns are pierced into the vase before the piece is fired. The process is incredibly difficult, and it’s said that George’s meticulous work has never been matched. Interestingly, this has been attributed in part to the fact that George was ambidextrous, allowing him to create entirely even and symmetrical piercings and patterns.

The 7.5cm tall vase in our sale is numbered 2491, features gilt decoration and is signed by George, making for a truly special piece of porcelain art. You can find it in our catalogue here:
