This stunning ancient Egyptian carved head will be offered in our Antique and Vintage Furniture sale on the 24th of May.
An ‘Ushabti’ funerary figure, the head appears to be made of basalt and dates to the 26th Dynasty (circa 664-525 BC). The head measures 15cm tall, with a width also of 15cm.
Accompanied by remarkable paperwork, drawings, and letters of provenance, this piece details its discovery during Flinders Petrie's 1888 excavations at Hawara.
The Ushabti was found at the pyramid of Amenemhat II, specifically within the tomb of the great noble Horuta.
